Distinguished and Famous people from Warren

🏏 Warren Bardsley

Warren Bardsley was born at Warren in 1882, the son of a teacher, before becoming one of Australia's accomplished left-handed batsmen. His long representative career extended into the 1920s and included Test captaincy. By retirement he had amassed more than seventeen thousand first-class runs at an average close to fifty, a record built through repeated innings rather than a single celebrated performance. The NSW birthplace is the town's direct link with that career. The matching first name and place name make an easily remembered detail, but the cricketing reputation was earned on grounds around Australia and overseas.

🗣️ Sharan Burrow

Sharan Burrow was born at Warren in 1954 into a family with a long association with unions and workers' rights. She trained as a teacher and worked in country NSW before becoming a Teachers Federation organiser. Leadership of the Australian Education Union and the ACTU preceded her election as general secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation in 2010. Her work thus moved from classrooms and regional organising into international labour advocacy. The family background and Warren birthplace form the early chapter of a career concerned with employment, representation and the conditions under which people work.

🚣 Daniel Noonan

Daniel Noonan was born at Warren in 1979 and went on to represent Australia in rowing at two Olympic Games. At Beijing in 2008, his quadruple-sculls crew broke the world record in the heats but finished just outside the medals in the final. World championship silver, bronze and gold followed over the next three seasons. At London in 2012, the Australian crew improved on its Olympic result to take bronze. His career carries a useful sporting lesson in its sequence: a strong heat or near miss was only one stage in years of rebuilding and racing together.
