The region of Warren, located in the Central West region of New South Wales, has a rich and fascinating history dating back many thousands of years. The area was traditionally inhabited by the Wiradjuri people, who were skilled hunters and gatherers.

European colonisation of the area began in the mid-19th century, with the first squatters arriving in search of land for grazing cattle and sheep. In 1861, Warren was officially surveyed and named after Sir Charles Warren, a British military officer and archaeologist. The town of Warren was officially established in 1885 and rapidly grew as a service centre for the surrounding agricultural communities.

The late 19th and early 20th centuries saw a variety of industries develop in Warren, including wheat farming, timber cutting, and mining. The town also became a major transport hub, with several major roads and railways passing through the area. By the mid-20th century, Warren had a number of schools, churches, and community organisations, as well as a hospital and other essential services.

During World War II, the town served as a training base for Australian soldiers, providing a vital contribution to the war effort. In the post-war period, Warren and the surrounding region saw significant growth and prosperity, with new businesses and industries emerging and the population steadily increasing.

Today, Warren remains an important centre for agriculture, with the surrounding area home to a range of crops and livestock. The town has also become a tourist destination, known for its beautiful scenery, historic buildings, and cultural attractions.

Overall, the history of Warren and the surrounding region is a fascinating story of resilience, innovation, and community spirit. From its beginnings as a traditional Indigenous hunting ground to its current status as a thriving rural town, Warren has always been a place where people come together to build a better future for themselves and their families.
